Lené Baxter, Level 3 IKO Kiteboarding Instructor; Standup Paddleboarding (SUP) Instructor/Tour Guide, Bachelor of Science, Sociology, United States Military Academy at West Point; Master of Arts, Sport Coaching (C), University of Denver

Specialty IKO Certifications in: Teaching to Students with Health Conditions, Assistant Instructor Trainer, Head Instructor and Teaching to Children

Lené started teaching kiteboarding 8 years ago when her best friend needed an instructor at his kiteboarding school.  She spent 3 months working with him, learning all the tricks of the trade and how to be an instructor.  After that time, she spent several months working and took the instructor certification course for IKO in Miami.  Teaching in that first sport was a great experience.  She had the opportunity to teach and help build a community of kiteboarders that is still thriving today!

During the off-season in Georgia (winter), she worked in Miami for two seasons.  During her last season, she was manager of the school and head coach of a team of 8 instructors.  Additionally, she ran the IKO Assistant Instructor Course together with another experienced instructor on the team.  Working in Miami under the owner, an IKO Examiner, helped to instill in Lené strong practices that she carries with her today in running her own school.

After Miami, Lené worked briefly teaching for Vela Wind Resort in Aruba before she met Miguel and moved to Chile in 2013.

Besides Kiteboarding, she is a strength and conditioning coach with her own business in Santiago that she runs Monday-Thursday.  She obviously loves to kite, but also enjoys swimming, cycling, running, (future triathlete here!), crossfit, climbing and hockey.

Miguel Varas, Assistant Kiteboarding Instructor (in training)/Administration

Miguel started learning to kiteboard many years ago in the Dominican Republic, but became serious about it here in Chile!  Having Lené around to help him may have helped a bit!   Miguel manages the administrative functions of Kiteboarding Chile – which allow Lené to spend all of her energy and time out on the water with the students!  His passion to kiteboarding has also extended to teaching and he is currently an Assistant Instructor in training.
